Tsinghua SIGS Institute of Materials Research Associate Dean and Associate Professor Bilu Liu has recently received the 2021 Nano Research Young Innovators Award (NR45) in 2D Materials.

Launched in 2018 by Nano Research, the NR45 Award is awarded to young researchers under the age of 45 in various fields of nanoscience and nanotechnology in recognition of their distinguished accomplishments and/or potential to make substantial contributions to their fields. 35 NR45 awardees were selected this year through a competitive process by an award committee from the journal’s editorial board.

Bilu Liu is an associate professor and PI at Tsinghua Shenzhen International Graduate School, Tsinghua University, China. He received his bachelor’s degree in Materials Chemistry from the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) in 2006, and Ph.D. degree in Materials Science from the Institute of Metal Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IMR, CAS) in 2012. He worked in the University of Southern California (USC) as a Postdoctoral Research Associate and later as a Research Assistant Professor between 2012 and 2016. His research interests cover the chemistry and materials science of low-dimensional materials with emphasis on carbon nanostructures, two-dimensional materials, and heterostructures. His work relates to the controlled mass preparation of these materials and their applications in electronic, optoelectronics, and catalysis.
