About “NO RULES”

Written languages have developed over the course of human evolution and guided mankind to civilization. The four earliest writing systems in the world are the oracle bone script, ancient Egyptian script, Mayan script, and the cuneiform.

In the NO RULES series, these writing systems are transformed into mountain forms, each designed according to the historical layout of the four great ancient civilizations. Using a combination of bronze and champagne colors, as well as ironwork, laser, wood carving and inlaying techniques, the piece turns text into symbols with no restrictions on understanding.

As a part of Chinese culture, the oracle bone script is the only one among the four writing systems that still exists till this day. Therefore, its mountain has a pointed design and extends upwards, whereas the others are truncated. The design highlights the charm of written languages and calls for efforts to not only protect cultural heritage, but to innovate ways to carry them forward.
